National security adviser Mike Waltz is expected to exit the Trump administration according to numerous media reports citing anonymous U.S. officials. Waltz came under fire after a journalist was mistakenly added to a group chat with other top officials about U.S. military plans with Yemen.

President Trump announced he will tap his outgoing national security adviser Mike Waltz to be ambassador to the United Nation. John Bolton, President Trump’s national security adviser in his first term, said it was “only a matter of time” before Waltz left the administration following the Signal chat controversy.

President Trump announced he will remove Mike Waltz as national security advisor and will nominate him to be ambassador to the United Nations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will take over as interim national security advisor. NBC News’ Garrett Haake reports.
