Senate Republicans and some Democrats voted to advance a stopgap funding bill which clears the path for a final vote to avert a government shutdown. The 62-38 vote included 10 Democrats joining all but one Republican in voting in favor.

Recession fears are growing as President Donald Trump is threatening to impose 200 percent tariffs on alcohol from the European Union, sending stocks plunging yet again. “I’m not going to bend at all,” he said of retaliatory tariffs from key trading partners.
